Thomas Chalkidis has been appointed new Managing Director for Metacon’s daughter company Helbio S.A. in Patras, Greece. At the same time, he assumes the role as Head of Reforming Technologies within Metacon Group.
Thomas Chalkidis takes over the leadership of Helbio after Professor Xenophon Verykios who retires after a long, successful scientific and entrepreneurial career in the field of catalytic steam reforming and related process chemical fields. Prof. Verykios is the founder of Helbio and the inventor behind several patented technologies, today constituting an important part of Metacon Group’s intellectual property.
Having served for more than eighteen years within Helbio under Prof. Verykios leadership, Thomas Chalkidis most recently comes from a role as Chief Operating Officer.
“I am incredibly pleased to have Thomas Chalkidis taking over the management of Helbio after Prof. Verykios long and successful career and invaluable contributions. We will now be able to start 2022 with a new leadership equipped to drive a growing number of advanced R&D projects towards commercialisation”, commented Christer Wikner, President & CEO of Metacon.
“I am very happy and inspired by this new role. I know both the company and our technologies inside out and I’m looking forward to contributing to bringing new products to market in the hydrogen space, as well as solving important challenges for our planet” commented Thomas Chalkidis, new Managing Director, Helbio S.A.

About Metacon AB (publ)
Metacon AB (publ) develops and manufactures energy systems for the production of hydrogen, heat and electricity. The products are based on a patented technology that, through so called catalytic steam reforming of biogas or other hydrocarbons, generates hydrogen. The development of Metacon’s reforming products is done within the wholly owned subsidiary Helbio, which is a spin-off from the University of Patra, Greece and was founded by Professor Xenophon Verykios in 2001. From the onset, the business has focused on catalysts and advanced reforming for high-efficiency hydrogen production. Hydrogen can be used in the transportation, industrial and real estate sectors with better environment and climate as a result.
Metacon also offers system solutions and facilities for the production of hydrogen through electrolysis, a large and globally growing area for small and large-scale production of green hydrogen. Hydrogen can be used in the transportation sector, the base industry and the real estate sector, with great improvements for the environment and the climate as a result.
