Metacon, through its German subsidiary Metacon GmbH, has entered into a cooperation agreement with PERIC Hydrogen Technologies Co., Ltd (PERIC) for supplying a Metacon range of Hydrogen Refuelling Stations (HRS) in Europe including EU, EFTA and UK.
The European HRS market is developing fast linked to increasing market needs as well as a rapidly maturing base of available hydrogen-driven heavy and light vehicles. Also in Sweden there has been a breakthrough recently in the number of announced HRS building efforts. Sweden is moving from today’s handful of refuelling options for customers to, over the next few years, in the region of 50 distributed hydrogen refuelling stations. Given the long range, cold independence and very fast refuelling time of hydrogen trucks and cars, this development will enable a very important first phase for hydrogen as the future key enabler of both climate and customer oriented sustainable transportation.
Under the terms of the agreement Metacon will source PERIC’s versatile and proven range of hydrogen refuelling solutions and equipment. During the latest winter Olympics in Beijing, PERIC was a lead partner for providing refuelling capacity to the 800 hydrogen buses servicing the Olympic games.
Metacon will have the right to brand the HRS product range and will actively participate in any further development or adaption to the needs of Metacon’s customers in Europe.
Christer Wikner, President and CEO of Metacon said: “The European market for hydrogen refuelling stations has started to grow and we expect it to grow fast over many years, driven by the accelerating green energy and fuel transition. We are very happy to be able to extend our partnership with PERIC for electrolysers to now also cover the HRS area. PERIC is one of the world-leaders in the manufacturing of hydrogen systems and together we see an opportunity to meet the emerging needs on the Nordic and European markets“.
Mr. Yuguang Zhang, General Manager, PERIC Hydrogen Technologies Co., Ltd (PERIC), commented; “PERIC has over many years developed one of the world’s strongest and most complete product portfolios in the hydrogen area. We are now taking an important new step in Europe together with Metacon in the growing HRS market. We truly believe our products in this area can contribute in a significant way to the green energy transition in the transport sector and thus, to the united global fight against climate change”.

About Metacon AB (publ)
Metacon AB (publ) develops and manufactures energy systems for the production of hydrogen, heat and electricity. The core products are based on a patented technology that, through so called catalytic steam reforming of biogas or other hydrocarbons, generates hydrogen. The development of Metacon’s reforming products is done within the wholly owned subsidiary Helbio, which is a spin-off from the University of Patra, Greece and was founded by Professor Xenophon Verykios in 2001. From the onset, the business has focused on catalysts and advanced reforming for high-efficiency hydrogen production.
Metacon also offers system solutions for the production of hydrogen through electrolysis, a large and globally growing area for small and large-scale production of green hydrogen. Electrolysis is a process of starting and driving a chemical reaction to split water by adding electricity. If the electricity used is non-fossil and green, the hydrogen will also become completely climate neutral and green. Green hydrogen can be used in, for example, the transport sector, the basic industry and the real estate sector with a better environment and climate as a result. https://metacon.se/
